Amadoka is a psychological drama about 20th-century Ukrainian history by writer Sofia Andrukhovych. A man without a name regains consciousness after miraculously escaping death in the hot spots of the war in the East. His face is disfigured, and his memory is completely erased. His wife, Romana, recognizes him by the shape of his lips. The woman spends all her money on operations and brings her beloved home, where the couple faces the most difficult task — to retrieve the warrior from the clutches of amnesia.
In her fragmented narrative, the author creates a complex narrative structure that allows her to speak about World War II, the Holocaust, the war in Donbas, and the collective traumas from which the nation has been trying to recover for decades.
