The Bookie's Daughter (Bookie from Troubles-Scream 2)

The Bookkeeper's Daughter is a humanist historical novel about courage and independence, female solidarity, and the fight for the right to education in the rugged mountains of 1950s Kentucky. For everyone who fell in love with the extraordinary, challenging, and deeply human journey of the bookkeeper from Troubles Creek, American author Kim Michelle Richardson has delivered a continuation of the story. This time, the focus is on Hattie, the daughter of Cassie Carter.

At the heart of the story is Hattie Lovett, the daughter of the beloved librarian from Troubles Creek. Hattie must fight for her independence with the help of women mentors and books that offer freedom.

Amidst the rugged mountains of Kentucky, Hattie Lovett always knew that the old ways could make an already difficult life even harder. The daughter of the renowned Black librarian from the Wild Horse Hollow series has spent her whole life hiding from the law with her family. But when her parents are imprisoned, Hattie realizes she must fight for her freedom, or she will be sent away forever. Continuing her mother's old library route, Hattie begins delivering books to remote corners of the Appalachians. The girl strives to prove that she can survive without anyone's guidance, but the road proves dangerous, and not all the locals are willing to let a woman forge her own path. If Hattie wants to bring the freedom that books offer, she will have to fight for her place in the world.
