1957. East Germany under Soviet control. KGB agent Stashinsky arrives at the department for instructions but receives a weapon he has never seen before. Meanwhile, Munich journalist Stefan Popel, an emigrant from Lviv, picks up his eldest daughter from school. She is interested in recent history and asks her father about what happened in Ukraine during World War II, why he often uses different surnames, and if he has ever heard of Stepan Bandera, the regional leader of the OUN in the 1930s. While talking about Ukraine, Stefan Popel only omits to mention that he is the very Bandera whom the KGB has been hunting for a long time. Bandera disregards warnings, refuses bodyguards, and relies on his own revolver. He dies on the stairs, facing his killer.
