A former PhD student who was working on a dissertation about the life and work of the prominent poet Vasyl Stus, and who by force of circumstances became a nurse, was offered the job of caring for a woman dying of a serious illness. As it turned out, the terminally ill woman was a former KGB colonel who had met Stus many times, especially in the last days of his life. The novel vividly portrays the poet's life in his native Donetsk region, surrounded by friends, teachers, and writers, as well as in the concentration camp where prisoners of conscience were held and punished for their beliefs. The novel also pays considerable attention to the fate of the poet's final manuscript collection. On September 5, 2019, the premiere of the eponymous film "The Forbidden: The Story of Vasyl Stus's Life and Struggle" took place in all cinemas across the country.
